Normally the IVF Clinics will have their own egg donor database so clients of theirs will be able to have access to it, but it obviously ties in well with the surrogacy agency’s business too, as two of the four surrogacy agencies that we have contacted have their own sister companies managing an egg donor database! I guess it is a very good income stream. These two egg donor agencies happen to be the only two in Canada at this stage.
Egg donors in Canada are like the surrogates, they are altruistic, which means that they do not get money from donating their eggs. They do it out of the kindness of their hearts and only request for reimbursement of their medical fees during the egg donation process. We keep thinking how could there be women who are so compassionate and so helpful? We are definitely so grateful to women who choose to be so selfless and kind.
What egg donor agencies does Canada have?
- Egg Helpers
- Owned by Chris Swanberg, husband of Leia Swanberg. Leia is the owner of Canadian Fertility Consulting
- Little Miracles
- Owned by Joanne Wright who also owns Canadian Surrogacy Options
We consulted with these two agencies which we did a combined consultation with their respective surrogacy agency. We wanted to have a chat with someone who can provide us with information from both surrogacy and egg donor sides, so we can cover it all in one consultation.
We were given access to both agency’s databases and I have to say that Little Helpers have far lesser egg donors than Egg Helpers. The layout of the Little Miracles pages especially for the donors was not as good as the ones from Egg Helpers. Just having a quick half an hour of looking, we managed to find egg donors that we would work with on Egg Helpers, but not on Little Miracles. That actually says a lot. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that the donors on Little Miracle’s database are bad, I am saying that Little Miracles just don’t have many donors listed.
Just basing on that and the fact that we have decided on working with Canadian Fertility Consulting, led us to decide on Egg Helpers.
