We went to Dinner by Heston Blumenthal for my birthday dinner last night. We have never been there before but I have to say it is far overrated. We left disappointed with the experience and will never be encouraging friends an family to go.
The lamb cutlets that we brought out had so much fat that only around 40% of the cutlets was meat. Even though it was tender, but it was less than what would be considered a fair amount of ‘mains’ on that main. It was awful, and what made it worse was that that main dish cost $60. It was a lot of money for what they wanted me to eat – a chunk of gross fat. The quail was alright, but still not for the price of $56. The desserts were nothing to rave about as well – cooking a pineapple over a vertical rotisserie doesn’t make for a good experience when it tastes like any roasted pineapple, no matter how many hours it is roasted for.
We won’t be recommending it to anyone thinking of going for the Heston experience. If you want an experience that will tease your taste buds, you are better off going to an Indian, Sri Lankan or Ethiopian restaurant, not this. What is worse is that it was my 40th birthday, and it was made known to them to them, and all they could do was to say happy birthday and give me a tiny mouse nonsense in a tiny glass with ‘Happy Birthday’ written on the saucer – and that seems to be given to everyone to finish off their meal! What a joke. It was so bad that I didn’t even bother taking a picture of it. It was embarrassing. They don’t know anything about birthdays and how to make people feel special. Absolute fail. All that said, the cocktails were fantastic though!
Overall, the money we spent could easily be spent better elsewhere. Anyone who says this is wonderful, really have not experienced good culinary skills elsewhere.
