Perfect 10!
It is hard to find a restaurant that can tick all our boxes. Once in a while we get to stumble across gems that can do just that. Merah Putih has done it for us in Bali. It has great atmosphere, fantastic bar, fantastic service, tasty cocktails, brilliant decor and interior design, mouth-watering food, and a dining hall that is well laid out! What more can one ask for?
Merah Putih managed to bring the outside into the indoors. Bali is great at doing things like that. Within the dining halls, you see sky-high coconut trees reaching for the crazy-high ceilings, which are formed by an interesting light structure, that makes it look very modern… like a new-age cathedral. There are waterfalls and a mezzanine level for bigger groups as well.
Our booking was for 8.45pm but we decided to get there at about 7pm-ish as we thought we will try out their bar before dinner. When we got there, they were all smiles and welcomed us to the bar and gave use nice comfy seats. We ordered cocktails and not too long after, we were shown to our table! It was about 7.40pm! That was quick!
As we walked into the dining hall, we were greeted with the coconut trees and other shorter trees that were littered around the place. It was so breathtaking that when seated, we had to keep looking around to try take it al in before getting distracted by the food they presented to us.
Dish after dish we had, it was just a treat for our tastebuds and we kept thinking ‘when is this good run going to end?’. At some point they have to come out with something to make us go ‘that could have been better’. Every dish kept going up the scale that we were preparing ourselves for a big thud when we get knocked down by something not that great. That never happened. NEVER.
Cameron’s birthday was a few days after and they presented him with a birthday dessert and sang a nice Javanese birthday song to him. Surprised him. YAY! It was a brilliant night and will definitely recommend to anyone who is going to Bali. This is a place that no one should leave without giving it a go.
