Landed ourselves in Beijing during our little China trip (May/June 2016). Had to go to the Great Wall of China. Really wanted to see what the fuss was with the wall. Seen so many pictures of the structure but have never really been up close. So we went. Oh Em Gee… it was so cool!
Firstly, there were two sections opened to the public:
- Badaling 八达岭 section, where mostly Chinese nationals will go because their great Chairman Mao (Zedong) walked that section when he was alive, and by walking there, the Chinese are showing loyalty and respect.
- Mutianyu 慕田峪 section, where tourists go, and has lesser crowd. It is also slightly further out, which we didn’t mind at all. At this section, there are two areas to get up to the wall and both with different methods of getting up there. You can choose either to go up by cable car, or chair lift, and to come down wither the cable car again or toboggan. What did we pick? Of course the chair lift and the cable car!
When we got up to the wall, we were met with vast and lush greenery on both sides of the wall, and this wall was just stretched out far and wide like it was slicing through the greens! It was truely breathtaking. We could walking up and down if we wanted to, and we did a little bit of walking and we became hot and sweaty and that meant “time to go”! I would love to go there again when it is winter just to see everything covered with frost and snow… would be a magical sight!
