We didn’t want to hear it, we really didn’t.
We are in the middle of our busy work trip to Singapore, we thought that it would also be a good time to just dive into work and not think about anything surrogacy for the time we are away. We thought wrong. In the wee hours of this morning, we received an email from Sarrie Anderson, Program Manager at Egg Helpers, our egg donor agency. The subject heading of that email was ‘Donor is not able to move forward’, informing us that our egg donor decided not to go ahead with donating her eggs.
“Hope you both are doing well. I wanted to connect with you to advise you that your donor is unable to proceed forward with this donation, she has had something personal happen to her. She apologizes as you have both been waiting for her. I can only imagine the disappointment that you are currently feeling. During this process, our intention is to create a closeness as we work together, and at this point there is obviously a distance, due to the disconnect lack of communication. I am wanting to help you find another donor who is available right away.”
It is disappointing to get news like this – when we have been waiting for so long just for her to be ready for the donation. We always gave her a benefit of a doubt when she kept coming back to the agency with excuses to delay the donation. We were hoping that she would eventually do it. Looks like she may have cold feet and decided not to go ahead with it.
As we are working through the days while in Singapore, we did not mull over it and wanted to just get on with it, without allowing the disappointment get to us. At the end of the day, Cam and I had each other and we go through this together. It is our journey and to be honest, without situations like this, our journey won’t be as interesting and ‘colourful’!
We know we have to get back to the drawing board to look for a new egg donor. Sarrie is also going to be helping us by sending through new donors that closely match with what we have been looking for. We also will go back into Egg Helpers’ database and read through many profiles again.
